Dmitri Young Knows How To Party

When you come down to Viera to attend Nationals Spring Training you begin to realize that the story of the Nationals is not just written on the field at Space Coast Stadium, but all over the town of Viera, Cocoa Beach, and surrounding areas. It seems like every local and business owner has a story to tell about meeting a player out of uniform. Trust us, after games, the Nats turn back into regular human beings and do regular human being things so it’s not surprising these guys are out and about in the area enjoying Florida.
Take Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young, for example.
During one of our excursions into the local neighborhood, we stopped at a Melbourne liquor store to pick up some good rum. You just can’t be in Florida and not have rum. While the NQ Crew were browsing, an employee who noticed I was wearing a Nationals shirt approached us. After inquiring if I was a fan (I said no, I like Shag Dancing) he went on to tell me that several players frequented the store throughout the month. This is a rough transcript of our conversation:
“Yeah, they are in here all the time. Dmitri Young comes in here around the start of Spring Training. He drives a really nice BMW and stays in a 39-foot RV of some sort. He was in here last Monday and bought something like $781 worth of wine and cigars. As you can see from our selection, he was spending like $70 a bottle. Hey man, these players, they certainly know how to live it up.”
Apparently so.
I’ve heard the saying that a glass of wine a day keeps you healthy and if that is the case then Dmitri Young must be impervious to all disease.
