Road House, originally uploaded by truck stop tea party.
I’ve been in mourning the past two days. The great Patrick Swayze passed away on Monday, losing his battle with cancer. Many were charmed with films like Dirty Dancing and Ghost, but for me, Swayze’s raw, five-tool talent was put on showcase in the All-American classic, Roadhouse. That’s right. Roadhouse. Red Dawn comes close too.
While you raid your VHS collection looking for Swayze tapes, I’ll be crying a few more tears and getting up some Nationals news for you this morning.
This Looks Familar – The Nationals were blanked 5-0 last night by the Philadelphia Phillies. Starter Garrett Mock gave up five runs all in the first two innings in a Livan Hernandez-like performance before settling down and going six innings. The Nationals offense was way too intimidated by pitcher Cliff Lee who almost has nine letters in his name.
Prepare yourselves for a little more of the same thing tonight. Starter Livan Hernandez, the master of putting his team in the hole early before pitching a gem is on the mound again tonight against that fatty Joe Blanton. It will be The Battle of the Overweight Tubbies.
2010 Is Here Already – In a shocking move, the Nationals released their 2010 schedule yesterday, allowing fans to get a jump on planning what games to attend next season and to give us a heads up on how early they will probably exit the season. Chances are looking good that it will be by the second game, much like this season. They start the season at home on April 5th with a series against, surprise, Stan Kasten’s favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies.
The first month looks absolutely brutal as the Nats face the Phillies, Brewers, Marlins, Mets, and Cubs early on. The MLB must want their meal tickets to get off to a good start so they can sell more t-shirts and thongs.
Second or Third Coming Delayed – Jesus Flores’ season is over– as if we all didn’t know that already. But it is official now. He is getting surgery his right labrum and isn’t expected to be back until THE MIDDLE of Spring Training 2010.
Quick! Quick! Put in Roadhouse. I need to take the edge off my anger and despair!
Dukes Can Poop Again – Apparently Elijah Dukes is more relaxed and not fearing the Syracuse axe because Jim Riggleman is here and says he’ll play everyday. This has led to Dukes being able to use the toilet on a more consistent basis without personal cloggage.
I wouldn’t get too comfortable, Dukes. The NQ’s money is on Riggleman not being here next season, not as manager anyways. Stock up on stool softener, pal.
