MASNsports.com and the beautiful Kristen Hudak report that Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman is going to be crowned ESPN’s first ever Web Gem Champion. Zimmerman will also be a special guest on tonight’s Best of Baseball Tonight Web Gem Awards beginning at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN 2.
Some closeted nerd at ESPN somehow determined that Zimmerman appeared in the most Web Gems and earned more “Web Gem Points” than any other player in the MLB. Web Gem Points are basically like those little houses and hotels you get when you play Monopoly.
Congratulations, Ryan Zimmerman. You stud. You animal. You third baseman who owns both the Boardwalk and all the railroads. There is a downside to this. Zimmerman not only won something, but it was given to him by ESPN.
That usually means he’ll be a Yankee or Red Sox player in the near future.
