Gilligan, Meet The Skipper

Nationals.com reports that a source close to the team says that interim manager Jim Riggleman will be named “Manager of the Washington Nationals” by Friday.
The Nationals have decided to name Jim Riggleman the permanent manager, according to a baseball source. The news comes five months after he was named the interim skipper, replacing Manny Acta.
A news conference is scheduled for Thursday at Nationals Park.
This move will do little to nothing to change the losing culture of the team. I can hardly be excited by putting the team in the hands of a guy who in a whole “decade” of his managerial career has only had two seasons over .500.
It is what it is, but I am expecting little to no improvement on the manager front. If that is coupled with any sort of bad FA signings or off season moves, I see no reason why this team isn’t going to finish dead last in the NL East next season.
I can’t hide the disappoint that we here at the NQ share at this move, but that should only hopefully cause Riggleman to want to prove us wrong.
Fortunately, my complete and utter anger at this lackluster move has been mellowed by huge amounts of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Have to agree — the manager’s effect on a team is GROSSLY overstated. The most recent World Series is proof, as the Yank-mes won *despite* Joe Girardi not *because* of him.
