It is common for two people who have been married for 25 years to celebrate their “Silver Anniversary” by giving their sig fig something silver in nature like a silver ring, silver dish or silver handcuffs. It took 25 years of just being cool for Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman to collect his gift.

Because I proposed to him and he said yes! Okay, not really, but the guy is collecting so much hardware and so much respect, it would be tempting to cross that line and get down on one knee. Zimmerman collected a Silver Slugger Award yesterday for being the best offensive third baseman in the National League. David Wright can suck it.

Zimmerman becomes the second National to win a Silver Bat (the first was unfortunately Alfonso Soriano in 06′), on Wednesday Zim became the first National to win a Gold Gold for defense and in 2009 Zimmerman was voted to the All-Star Team for the first time by a vote from his peers. It has been a huge year for the young stud.

“It’s nice to win awards. All of us in this game work very hard during the offseason and throughout the season,” Zimmerman said. “I take a lot of pride in what I do. It’s nice to get honored for it, especially when I know how hard it is to win these because of the good players that play here, not only in my position, but in this league. It’s a tough league to be good at.”

Congratulations once again to Ryan Zimmerman. I’m planning to have a vampire bat bite him to obtain a blood sample. Then I will cover the bat in prehistoric amber, extract the blood, use frog blood to fill in the DNA gaps and grow a whole team of Zimmermans.

Just like out of that book.
