Guzman

Nationals shortstop Cristian Guzman says he isn’t too sure about switching from shortstop to second base in 2010. The aging shortstop was told of the team’s decision in September, but is now expressing concern in switching positions, especially since he is not scheduled to play Winter ball learning the new position.

Guzman’s agent, Stanley King, talked to Nationals.com and gave them the goods:

“I’m really not certain. I know that he still feels he is a good, viable shortstop,” King said recently. “I know he will do anything and everything possible to help the Nationals win. Once he had his surgery, our conversations have shifted to him getting healthy.

“Right now there aren’t any plans [to play winter ball]. Our first concern is to make certain his arm is 100 percent and he is doing all of his therapy, which he is doing now.”

If the Nats were asking Guzman to pitch a few innings, play catcher or be an air traffic controller, then I’d understand his hesitating, but all the team is asking him is basically move over to your left about 45 odd feet or so. If Guzman wants to help the Nats win, he’ll shut up and do as he is told.

If Guzman wants to cry, whine and throw a hissy, he can always go play on the Cubs. That team loves letting the nuts run the Nuthouse.
