Nick Johnson Has A Problem
Johnson gets Nicked, originally uploaded by Jeff Foust.
Nationals.com reports that first baseman Nick Johnson is going to need arthroscopic surgery in an attempt to evaluate ligaments in his damaged right wrist so he might then…get more surgery.
What? Is that right?
Sadly so and NJ went under the knife this morning. The Nationals have mentioned that Nick Johnson could be lost for the season. This is the fourth time in five seasons NJ has been unable to complete a full season due to injury.
It’s with a heavy heart that I say this: it’s time to let Nick Johnson go. Like Shawn Hill and John Patterson before him, Nick Johnson is just one of those unfortunates that have something in their genetic makeup that make them easily injured and slow to heal.
The NQ loves NJ. The guy is a grinder, he is patient, he can hit, he shaves lightning bolts into his head, he is a real baseball player. He even came back from a broken femur…what a freaking animal!
But the Nats cannot afford to continue to play this game with players that are this fragile. With how this season is going and the hopes and dreams of many falling on the coming next few years, the Nats can’t be sneaking the same old broken chess pieces back on the board. The only thing more fragile is my ego.
I remember when I was a kid and I scraped my knee on the playground blacktop. The kids started laughing at me and my royal blue blood while throwing mud on my dickey and calling me “blueberries.”
I’ve been rich and maladjusted ever since.
UPDATE: The Nationals Journal confirms it: I am rich.
