Oh boy. Right fielder Jayson Werth just can’t catch (or pay) for a break, can he?
The hairy outfielder grounded into a game ending double play stranding the tying run on third with one out in the bottom of the ninth in a 2-1 Nats loss to the Colorado Rockies. They are saying the boos and chants of “Jayson Werthless” at the end of the game were enough to drown out the post game interviews and broadcasts.
The richest pile of hair in a baseball uniform has fallen on some hard times and Natstown (rightfully so) isn’t letting him forget it. 6-for-36 in July will do that to any player at any contract. He needs to get his head screwed on back right because no one, booing, cheering or not can help him. He has to do it himself.
But the NQ does feel bad for him. He might deserve the crap he is getting, but it is still hard to see a Nationals player fall on hard times. If I was at Nationals Park right now I’d splurge a little and buy him an ice cream cone and one of those foam “We’re Number One” fingers. Sadly, I am not and I can only offer him one thing, one thing that brings eternal joy to the hearts of everyone everywhere. It might not improve his average, but it might give him grooming tips and make him smile– and maybe a career choice after baseball.
These photos were taken during the Harrisburg Senators game in Richmond Saturday night against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. People went nuts for this stuff (no pun intended). I’m exhausted so I will post the rest of what I have from the Harrisburg/Richmond game tomorrow morning, but I wanted to get this up because not only do I think Jayson Werth needs it, but I think all of Natstown does too at this moment.
I give you the immortal: Cowboy Monkey.
I don’t know about you, but I feel a lot better.
